Parts Portfolio Management

The turbocharger is one of the most suitable and common products for remanufacturing, which leads to a high competition with the IAM. To face this competition and to offer customers of older vehicles a price-attractive product, an OEM customer asked Encory to launch a remanufacturing project for turbochargers.

The Approach

Encory realized a remanufacturing step-by-step SOP:

  1. Definition of a relevant part number scope to generate maximum cost savings and to allow a competitive price positioning. Technical feasibility and sales potential were main criteria for this selection
  2. Implementation of a corresponding core management to collect relevant parts
  3. Bidding process to OES and free remanufacturers based on an OEM approved specification sheet
  4. Coordination between all OEM internal stakeholders for validation and release of the remanufacturing product concept
  5. Support of process release audit and ramp-up at the supplier followed by final handover to the OEM customer’s line functions


Value Added

Several strategic targets could be met through the realization of this project:

  • Significant reduction of production costs
  • New price positioning of alternative reman product line
  • Increase of end-customer retention was achieved with joint marketing activities for vehicle being 4 years or older
